My cycling holiday in Mallorca started off with a bang – a full-day ride with more than 1.300 m climbed. As you might imagine, the second day I wanted something a bit more relaxing, but still challenging enough to take advantage of the Mallorquin scenery.

Route: Palma – Peguera – Calvia – Palma

Palma – Peguera
From Palma to Peguera there is a coastal inhabited area, with lots of seaside resorts one next to the other. The landscape offers short punchy hills with a dedicated cycling route – this is a safer option if you are new to cycling, but not the most exciting one if you are used to riding on the road.
The silver-linining was the lunch we had next to the seaside. From there we headed inland, experiencing the more familiar scenery.

Peguera – Calvia
After lunch we headed to Calvia. The inland route had almost no traffic at all. On the way we went through villages such as Es Capdellá, with their narrow streets and majestic churches.
Calvia – Palma
Along the way we discovered a lovely canyon-like area where we enjoyed much-desired shade and lower temperatures. This road with a lovely wooden fence was such a cosy place that we took an impromptu break for pictures and a snack.

This patch of road was among our favourites from the whole trip to Mallorca – it was so remote and quiet – just us riding and the small birds chirping … and the occasional cyclists. As we discovered, this was a popular return route to Palma.

We passed close to one of Palma’s electrical stations. When passing under the lines, you could hear them whizzing.

From there on we climbed Coll Sa Creu and descended to Palma – this time it was a more enjoyable experience compared to the previous day 🙂

So, costal or inland? After the first 2 days, the answer was definitely inland. Plenty of shade, beautiful climbs … and the occasional goat 🙂

The rented bike

The bike was rented from Nanobicycles. It was in very good condition and I quickly felt comfortable with it. On the Nanobicycles website you can find multiple cycling routes in Mallorca – this is very useful as inspiration when designing your adventure!
